Ronnie Simpson is a professional sailor and mariner who has logged more than 175,000 nautical miles at sea. After being seriously wounded in combat while serving in the Marines in Iraq at the age of 19, Ronnie discovered sailing and threw himself at the sport. Working as a yacht rigger, racing yacht preparateur and racing sailor on the west coast and in Hawaii, Ronnie developed his passion for the sport and went on to compete in many west coast regattas including 6 races to Hawaii. At the same time, Ronnie lived on a series of small cruising sailboats and logged countless miles around the Pacific, sailing twice as far as Fiji and New Zealand. A story teller by nature, Ronnie earned a degree in multimedia while attending Hawaii Pacific University and went on to establish himself as an award winning sailing writer and journalist for sailing magazines and websites, and has covered sailing regattas and events around the world as both a journalist and a sailing media professional.
Ronnie first traveled to Maine in 2022 to pursue his goal of racing singlehanded and non-stop around the world. Sailing 80% of the way around the world in the 2023-24 Global Solo Challenge on the Open 50 Shipyard Brewing, Ronnie unfortunately dismasted off of Argentina and was unable to finish the race. He has since purchased a Class 40 racing yacht for the 2027-28 Global Solo Challenge race. An avid racing sailor, a well-traveled delivery and charter Captain and a blue water cruiser, Ronnie now calls Portland, Maine home port and is excited to join the Lyman Morse team. With extensive experience in sailboats, power boats, racing boats and cruising boats, Ronnie is passionate about working with clients to help them find the right boat to make their own boating dreams a reality.
