Summary

In December 2024, the iconic 1925 schooner Hindu was relaunched from Building 7 at Lyman-Morse’s Thomaston yard, marking a major milestone in a five-year restoration effort that brought new life to one of William Hand Jr.’s most recognized designs. The relaunch was a proud moment for all involved—an early Christmas gift for the crew and craftsmen who poured their skill and dedication into this historic vessel.

As part of the extensive rebuild of this classic Grand Banks fishing schooner, the Lyman-Morse team contributed to nearly every aspect of the reconstruction. Our shipwrights and craftsmen worked closely with Hindu’s crew to fabricate and install:

  • New decks, bulwarks, cap rails, and cockpit coaming

  • Traditional deck houses and all associated deck hardware

  • Interior ceiling planking, sole beams and framing, sole boards, and multiple interior bulkheads

  • Custom engine mounts, deck support posts, and finely detailed interior trim

This collaborative restoration was more than just structural—it was a preservation of character, honoring the craftsmanship of the original while ensuring Hindu is ready for many more decades of sailing and storytelling.

Following her relaunch, Hindu headed south to the Florida Keys for a winter of chartering and is expected to return to Provincetown, Massachusetts, for the 2025 summer season.
