Lyman-Morse Successfully Delivers and Installs Canopy to Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA

9/26/2022- Thomaston, ME- Lyman-Morse Technologies successfully delivers and installs the 180′ x 32′ Canopy to the Kendall Square MBTA Station in Cambridge, MA as part of MIT’s redevelopment project for the area. The new canopy will not just protect MBTA passengers from the elements when entering and exiting the station, but also adds a modern aesthetic to area.

Delivering the Canopy from Thomaston, ME to Cambridge, MA was no easy task. First the team had to pull the two pieces out of the building and carefully hoist them onto a barge that would travel to Boston. Once in Boston, a smaller tug then pushed the barge up the Charles River to Cambridge where the two pieces were unloaded and prepped to travel through the streets.

In the dark of night, a team of cranes hoisted the two pieces through the streets of Cambridge and positioned them in their final resting place above the Kendall Square MBTA station.

Here is the team that made it all possible! Great work!

Later this fall, programmable lighting will be suspended from the top of the canopy structure, allowing Massachusetts Institute of Technology to change colors and create displays for events.
