Lyman-Morse Hosts the 6th Annual Camden Classics Cup

WOW! This was the best Camden Classics Cup yet!  This year’s fleet was the largest yet, with 91 boats on the starting line. We saw it all out there on the water, from 25+ knot gusts and clear blue skies to brief rain storms and light air. Our post racing events certainly weren’t something to write off, either. Lyman-Morse’s new waterfront facility was the perfect place to party after a long day on the water. The scenery and evening weather did not disappoint!

On the water we saw some fierce competition between some absolutely gorgeous yachts. LEAF won the Camden Classics Cup and took home the gold in the Vintage 1 class as well. ZEMPHIRA and BLACKFISH went toe-to-toe in the Spirit of Tradition/ Contemporary Class with BLACKFISH walking away with the Stephens Waring Yacht Design- Spirit of Tradition Perpetual Trophy and ZEMPHIRA winning the combined Spirit of Tradition and Contemporary Class. TIO LOCO took 1st in the Contemporary division.

PALAWAN repeated their performance from last year and took 1st place in the Classic 1 division and Camden’s very own, THE HAWK was able to snatch 1st in Modern Classic. The Schooner and Gaff class was won by REBECCA OF VINEYARD HAVEN and SIREN took home 1st place in Vintage 1. SNOW FALCON had some tight racing in the Vintage 2 fleet coming in just shy of LEAF but still took 1st in the Concordia Class and for the second year in a row, FROLIC came out on top of the Daysailer fleet!

This year’s J boat fleet grew exceptionally larger than last year with the J/42 class having 5 boats on the line and FINEZZA VELOCE taking the gold. The J/46 class had 9 boats show up and saw AKAI grab line honors on both days! TAMARACK came back with vengeance this year and walked away with 1st on both days in PHRF Racing. The PHRF cruising 1 class had LEGACY come out on top while the cruising 2 class saw MOONDANCE on top of the podium.

The Yacht Club Challenge was also tightly contested between the New York Yacht Club and the Camden Yacht Club but in the end the home team won. Congrats CYC!

The Regattaman results can be found on our website here.

The Youth Regatta was another highlight on the weekend as we saw 8 clubs participate and bring along 63 sailors! There was some real competition between these young sailors which is amazing to see! Many thanks to Doyle Sails for providing some great pre- and post-race analysis for the junior sailors. Our Youth Regatta winners can be found here.

A debt of gratitude goes out to our volunteers, the coaches, our youth regatta sponsors, and our photographer for making this all happen. We are very thankful for our amazing community who has done so much to help grow and support youth sailing!

Not only was it fun, but we were able to raise $15,000 for LifeFlight of Maine, which is Maine’s only critical care transport service. Over the last 6 year’s, we have donated over $75,000 to our state’s crucial non-profit service. Thank you to all the sponsors and participants who make it happen!
