Summary
Idunn has served its current owners well. It is now time for new stewards. She is well proven and well equipped. I believe the best way to describe this Ted Hood design is to let Ted do it himself:
“It’s not like any sailboat I have ever designed. It’s medium displacement, with a flat run aft that is flatter than most sailboats so that she does not squat at high speeds under power. We designed a motorsailer with an unusually powerful and efficient rig for light air and better upwind performance.
Under sail, the design can sail well upwind and even faster off the wind.
And when the wind fails, the boat’s motorsailing qualities turn a day of drifting into a day of direction plus motorsailing with the engine idling.
A well thought out cockpit design allows the helmsman to operate the boat easily with three speed electric winches. Engage the autopilot and manage the reefing single-handed.
The boats accommodations provide a large master stateroom, open salon, pilothouse helm station and guest cabin with upper and lower berths. An office space is also designed in the cabin for the liveaboard who needs a computer work station. Laid out with powerboat style, the helmstation and navigation areas offer more practical space than in older motorsailer designs. The boat can be sailed from inside as well.

Interior
Idunn is truly a great liveaboard. She is set up for long term comfort. There is a larger “C” shape settee with custom table elevated to starboard as you enter from the cockpit. On port there is a two to three person bench settee with a counter forward
Just forward of the settee and table on starboard is the bench helm seat with the helm and all the electronics.
Heading below decks the galley is to port and the guest cabin and office is to starboard. The guest cabins has an upper and lower bunk with a built in desk inboard forward.
The guest head is forward of the galley and the owners’ head and cabin is forward of that.
The sole is classic teak and holly throughout the boat with satin varnish and cherry cabinetry, also satin varnished.
