Fourth Annual Camden Classics Cup Setting Record Pace

June Dispatches: Camden Classics Cup TipsCAMDEN, MAINE: With still three weeks to go before the starting guns are fired, the fourth annual Camden Classics Cup (CCC) is already bigger than previous years by a pretty wide margin. 74 Boats have registered as of Monday, July 1st. “The word is out on this destination regatta,” said Drew Lyman, President of Lyman-Morse, the organizing force behind the regatta.  Yachts are coming in from the Caribbean, Long Island Sound and New England. The 400+ guests will be in Camden will experience the town at its peak with a fantastic schedule of events on land and sea. 68 boats participated last year and 39 boats participated in 2017. Registration is open!

This year the committee has amplified the offerings to the public. Here is a quick outline of events:

Friday, July 26

  • 12-4 p.m. Camden Classics Cup Racing. Drive or Hike to the top of Mt. Battie for viewing! 
  • 11-3 p.m. – Third Annual Camden Classics Cup Youth Regatta – 420 racing in the Outer Harbor
  • 3-7 p.m. Come chill at Lyman-Morse at Wayfarer. Music by DJ Rusty Barnard. Be there to welcome the fleet back. 

Saturday, July 27

  • 9 a.m. All Comers Row and Paddle Races, Camden Harbor. (8:30 a.m. registration at the Camden Public Landing). BYOC – Bring Your Own Craft. See Harbormaster Steve Pixley for details.
  • 10 a.m. Parade of Sail. Spectacular presentation of the more than 70 boats entered in the Camden Classics Cup. Get your spot at Lyman-Morse at Wayfarer or anywhere along the harbor. Steve Pixley will be commentating from the Public Landing.
  • 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. The Camden Classics Cup is excited to welcome back our friends with the Mid Maine Sports Car Club who will be returning with a display of their classic European sports cars. From Jaguars to Bugattis, to MGs to Porsches and more, there’s something special about seeing an elegant classic tourer juxtaposed with the Camden Classics Cup racing fleet. Lyman-Morse at Wayfarer.
  • 12-4 p.m. – Camden Classics Cup Racing. Drive or Hike to the top of Mt. Battie for viewing!
  • 2:30-5:30 p.m. Come chill at Lyman-Morse at Wayfarer. Music by DJ D-Vice. Be there to welcome the fleet back from a day of racing. 
  • 8:45 p.m. Fireworks over Curtis Island Presented by Camden National Bank. Great viewing from anywhere in Camden Harbor. AGA Correa & Son and Sea Bags are supplying the class awards. Bob Stephens and Paul Waring of Stephens Waring Yacht Design will present the trophy to the winner of the Spirit of Tradition Class. Drew Lyman will present the Tiffany silver champagne bucket to the Overall Winner as the fireworks go off!

    The Camden Classics Cup is always scheduled for the weekend prior to the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, one of the most popular classic yacht races in New England, and is followed by Camden Classics Week, featuring a variety of maritime-related events and destination racing to Castine, Brooklin and the outer islands, plus youth sailing and events. It all sets up a perfect week of racing, cruising, and camaraderie. The town of Camden and its businesses embrace the maritime theme with art displays, a classic car expo, lectures, music and film, plenty of youth events and fun for the entire family all centered on the waterfront of beautiful Camden.

    The Camden Classics Cup is a Sailors for the Sea Silver Level regatta. To complement the Green purpose, the regatta has organized two special speakers:
