Summary
The new Blackwatch 45 is a hybrid electric displacement motor yacht capable of long range, comfortable and safe passage making. It will to be powered by two 50 KW electric motors for a total of 134 H.P. A pair of these motors will drive the Blackwatch 45 all day long at 9 knots (10.4 statute miles per hour) while running at 54% capacity with a top speed of 10 knots (11.5 MPH) while running at 60% capacity.
The battery system is to include 32, 48 volt, 100 amp/hr. lithium Iron Phosphate batteries that
provide enough power (164 KW hours) to allow the system to run at 8.5 knots for 4 hours while
running at 40% capacity. The 30 KW Northern Lights generator augments the system to allow for all
day running. In addition there are to be six LG NeOn, high efficiency solar panels of 440 watts each
located on the flybridge shade allowing substantial charging ability for the electromotive system.
The solar panels provide 2.64 KW of charging power.
Of note is the intended mounting of the generator which is isolated within a Northern Lights
provided enclosure. First the enclosure is mounted with rubber isolation, second, the generator
itself is mounted in the enclosure separately also with rubber isolation. This double mounting
system will make for an extremely quiet and vibration free installation.
The displacement of the Blackwatch 45 is sufficient for enough fuel (420 gals.), batteries, water (346
gals) and other consumables to allow for long distance cruising. The Blackwatch 45 will make an
excellent choice for the Great American Loop. With exceptionally long range, good speed and
height, draft and beam dimensions that allows passage on any part of the loop, she is an ideal
choice for this increasingly popular long distance cruise. Starting with full tanks of fuel, this elegant
yacht would require but one fuel stop over a 5,000 mile voyage.
