Behind the Build: Lyman-Morse Constructs 49′ Electric Catamaran for Upstream Alliance

Lyman-Morse is proud to share an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Firefly — a 49-foot fully electric catamaran currently under construction at our facility in Thomaston, Maine.

Commissioned by Upstream Alliance, a nonprofit focused on environmental education and advocacy, Firefly is a purpose-built vessel that will serve as a floating classroom and research platform in Camden, New Jersey. Once completed, the vessel will provide students and educators with hands-on experiences on the water, promoting a deeper connection with the natural world and the critical ecosystems that surround them.

Lyman-Morse Fabrication is leading the build, handling the aluminum construction and early systems integration, while the vessel’s final outfitting is taking place at our main boatbuilding yard. The project showcases not only cutting-edge marine electric technology, but also the craftsmanship, precision, and collaboration that defines our team.

“This is the kind of project we get excited about,” said Drew Lyman, President of Lyman-Morse. “It’s innovative, impactful, and allows our team to push the boundaries of sustainable marine design. We’re honored to be a part of it.”
