Layout and Design

Number of single berths: 4
Number of cabins: 1
Number of heads: 1

Beautifully finished accommodations for four in the traditional "Herreshoff Style" with varnished teak trim on white flat panels.  The cabin soles are varnished teak.  Superb natural light and ventilation with two large deck hatches, six stainless ports and numerous windows in the wheelhouse, many of which are sliders with screens.  Artificial light is equally well provided for with numerous overhead dome style lamps throughout and swivel type reading lamps at all berths and settees.  Heating and cooling is provided as needed by a 16,000 BTU reverse cycle airconditioning unit.

Starting forward is the V-berth measuring over 6'-10" in length below which there is storage in 4 large drawers and some bin type storage further forward.  There are shelves at the aft end outboard and storage cubbies above and aft; the hull is lined with varnished spruce ceilings above.  At the fwd end of the V-berth is access to the anchor locker and another shelf for storage.  Aft P&S are two hanging lockers

Next aft to port are upper and lower berth for guests or other family members with drawer storage below, bind type storage under the lower berth and a large storage shelf with sliders outboard; a small bureau is adjacent aft.  The cabin sole in this area is hinged with pneumatic assist to access a 5' long deep storage bin.

Opposite is the large head with separate stall shower featuring a generous vanity with polished stainless steel sink, abundant storage, and manual W.C. plumbed via Y valve added in 2012, to the waste tank.

Up two steps (with storage under) is the Helm Station, Galley, and Salon.  The Starboard helm station is fully equipped with all vessel controls and adjacent electrical panels.  Unique to the Ellis 36 is the custom Ellis helm seat design which lowers and raises to function ideally as either a helm seat or with the back rest flipped to the forward position as dining settee bench for two.  To port is a double companion seat (fixed), the back rest for which can easily be removed to create an expanded galley counter top and navigation area.

Aft and to starboard is a 2nd double settee below which there is storage and a handsome fold out table with inlay, then a large bureau with custom finished storage.

The Galley runs along the port side and features ample counter space, storage in several lockers, drawers and shelves, and single basin stainless steel sink.  Cooking is done from a Princess 3 burner propane stove with oven while chilled food stuffs are housed in a Nova Kool dual voltage refrigerator freezer box in the galley. There is also a Nova Kool dual voltage freezer box housed in a cabinet in the cockpit.

A sliding door port side aft provides egress to the cockpit (described under hull and deck) but expansive easily accommodating 4-6 deck chairs.  The appropriately angled stainless steel with teak tread ladder leads to the flying bridge which is large for a 36' boat.  There are three swivel style helm chairs forward and a large deck box which can also provide seating as well as plenty of room for additional deck chairs if one wishes.
