TRANSITION came to us in 2009 for a series of projects that included an overhaul of the engine room and complete repower with the installation of twin C18's at 1150HP each, as well as a new generator, batteries and watermaker. While the engine work was underway, the electrical wiring system was completely replaced and new electronic instruments were installed. We designed and fabricated a custom radar arch and below the waterline we installed new props and shafts. Last, but certainly not least, we extended the LOA by 3' with the addition of an integral swim platform at the transom and finished up with a full fairing and Awlgrip job on the topsides including clearcoat.
| Introduction TRANSITION was acquired in 2008 by her current owner, a discriminating yachtsman who previously considered building a custom yacht with pod drives, but decided to undertake a significant upgrade to this well-respected Hunt design -- employing straight shaft propulsion, but with full pod drive functionality. As noted herein, TRANSITION was rebuilt by the craftsmen at Lyman Morse with a full-time owner’s rep over a two-year period, ending in 2011. During this time the hull was extended three feet with a custom five foot swim platform; topsides/bottom were faired and painted; the engine room was brought down to bare with all new components; and new drive train, hydraulic bow thruster, wiring and plumbing were added. All work was done to ABYC standards to a specification common with much larger motor yachts. Marine electronics, air conditioning, lighting and toilets were all replaced. With her twin CAT C-18 ACERTs (total 2,300 hp) and ZF Joystick Management System, TRANSITION can reach speeds of 37 knots, cruise at 33 knots, dock with the joystick, or hover in one position indefinitely to aid singlehanded use. Truly a magnificent yacht! |

Engine/ Mechanical Equipment During the complete rebuild of the engine room, all insulation was replaced using the latest technology and highest possible specs from Soundown. All vibrating components were double soft mounted, and sound tiles were added to the hull between engine room and transom. The end result is an extremely quiet, fast and smooth-running yacht. New Equipment (2010/2011):
Original Equipment:

Hull and Deck Solid fiberglass hull with foam coring above the waterline. During the major rebuild period, three feet were added to the hull with a custom five-foot swim platform above. This was done following extensive design and engineering work provided by C. Raymond Hunt and Associates. With her added waterline length and buoyancy, TRANSITION now runs more level (3.5 deg. max. bow rise without trim tabs) and imperceptibly transitions to planing at speeds much lower than her sisterships (less than 12 knots!) The entire hull was faired, epoxy barrier coating applied and topsides were finished with Black Awlgrip to a mirror finish. There is a gold cove stripe, single white boot stripe and green bottom. Fiberglass deck with foam core and white Gelcoat with Moondust Tan Awlgrip for non-skid areas. Teak decking in cockpit and on custom swim platform. Twin anchor lockers forward were modified in 2011 to self drain properly. All windows in house were re-bedded during rebuild, with blackened frames for a sleek, modern look.
