GAF VI
$199,000

GAF VI is a remarkably well built and well maintained sportfishing vessel. She will truly impress those that have the opportunity to inspect her.

While the obvious focus of this seriously capable vessel is sport fishing she has been maintained to yacht standards throughout and has comfortable accommodations for a reasonable sized party for longer duration fishing trips or for a family on a more cruise oriented excursion.

Hull Construction
  • 3/8” Kevlar , 1 ½” High density milspec Airex core 90, 1/2” S glass fiberglass, epoxied and vacuum bagged at high pressure for 7 days before mold release.
  • 4 full length 6”wide stringers of laminated golden oak, 3 2”x10” planks with 12 oz. S glass colth between and fully wrapped around each plank, fully tabbed and recessed into hull molded groove, then epoxied to hull under vacuum for additional 7 days.
  • Bulkheads 3 ½” thick of very high density airex core with ½” Kevlar on each side and again epoxied and  vacuum bagged. (our understanding is that because this process was so labor intensive only 4 vessels, built for government DEA service, were constructed in this manner. Subsequent vessels were cold molded glass over wood.)
  • Engine room stringers were fully capped on 3 sides with Corten steel, wet 12 oz. bi-axial S glass cloth was press fitted under the steel engine beds, bolted through with grade 8 bolts and tightened before the west epoxy cure took place.

Caterpillar Engines

Main propulsion with turbo and after cooled caterpillar 3208 engines originally supplied to the US government with a mil spec certification rated at 440 HP at 3000 RPM. These engines are said to differ from production 3208 in several respects:

  • Block castings higher than normal nodular iron for increased strength facilitating replaceable  piston liners
  • 3 ring pistons vs 2 ring in “civilian” units
  • Inconel valves with proper matching valve seat inserts and double valve seals.Extra strength valve springs with a higher lift and longer duration camshaft.
  • Larger diameter pushrods
  • Extra capacity Donaldson Air filters and Luberfiners.
  • Cupro-nickel heat exchangers
