Chuck Paine was commissioned to perfect the concept for this ideal ocean cruiser. Designed to be a true motorsailor, she is a comfortable cruising yacht capable of a steady 10 knots whether under sail or power or both. Her custom interior is "relatively" simple and optimized for two-couple cruising. Her hull construction is of rugged welded aluminum. RANGER is equipped with a pair of hydrodynamic stabilizers ("birds") that when lowered into the water from the beefed-up side vanes help to eliminate roll and provide stability at sea. This is superior yacht capable of cruising the oceans of the world in refined splendor and comfort regardless of conditions encountered.
| Hull & Deck Hull The hull, frames and plating are made out of 5083 aluminum with a hard chine. The long, wide and shallow keel offers stability and a low place tto house the engine (allowing the engine's weight to act as additioonal ballast). Fuel tankage is also located in the bilge. The hammered hull, though more costly to build, ensured superior aesthetics has a sanblasted finish. Ranger has a red sheer stripe protected by a practical aluminum rub rail.
Deck The deck is strong and features plenty of space to store smaller craft for exploring, excercising and sailing. She currently carries a kayak, a sailing dory, a wind surfer and an Avon Tender, all in proper chaulks for quick deployment and security. Fashioned out of sandblasted aluminum, the wide side decks, cabin tops and fore deck are covered in "Tread-Master". The aft cockpit is covered with a aluminum framed canvas overhead.

Interior Layout The "Herreshoff-;like"interior features a teak cabin sole throughout the boat. Overheads are grooved bright white panels with white trim. The cabinetry is made of varnished cherry, the trim is teak and the cabinetry features interesting cut out details everywhere. White laminate bulkheads are easy to clean. A diesel powered heating system keeps all parts of the interior warm even in the coldest of conditions. Entering through the companion way door located at the forward end of the aft cockpit, one steps down two stairs and enters the main salon area. Down below is bright, warm and simple. Immediately to starboard is a guest stateroom with a queen berth and built in dressers. Forward of that is an open area with a dinette which sits 6 and the large galley. Galley includes:
Forward of the galley, is the pilothouse. The pilothouse
Going forward to the pilothouse and down a few steps, one enters the master stateroom.
The engine room is accessed through the aft end of the shower. |

The Steadysailor is a name we coined for this new type of yacht. With that name, you would expect her to be a motor yacht with a steadying sail, and she is certainly that. She is, also, the embodiment of the term motor-sailor. She was designed and optimized for motor-sailing, which is what the majority of pure cruising sail-boats do much of the time anyway. All experienced sailors know what a difference in speed is made just by having the engine ticking over slowly when under sail, or the sails up and drawing when under power. The Steadysailor is intended to always have the engine running, so that the yacht travels at a given speed(say 10 knots) at all times, no matter the state of the wind. Thus she will make good 240 nautical miles per day, or over 1000 statute mile every four days no matter what. Steady speed rather than the presence of a steadying sail, is what gives this design its name.
